TJ assessing a seated patient’s hip mobility beside the grid wall

One-on-One Physical Therapy

A full session with a doctor of physical therapy at every visit. A plan built around your goals, your training, and your daily life.

No referral needed to get started in Massachusetts.

Individual attention, from the first minute to the last

One-on-one means exactly that. For your whole session, TJ works with you and only you. No aides handing you a sheet of exercises. No double-booking. No being passed to someone new halfway through.

Your story comes first. Then your assessment. Then a plan that fits you, not the average patient on the schedule.

Pursuit is a private-pay physical therapy and performance clinic in Hopedale, MA. We work with active adults, athletes, runners, lifters and people recovering from surgery. You don't need to be an athlete. You need a goal.

Why most Physical Therapy feels rushed

Many clinics are built for volume. One therapist covers several patients at once, and part of your visit goes to an aide or a machine. That's how the schedule works, not a lack of care. But it can leave you with:

  • Little time with the person making decisions about your care
  • A plan that looks like everyone else's
  • Exercises with no explanation of why
  • Progress that stalls once the pain settles

What one-on-one care looks like at Pursuit

  • The same doctor of physical therapy every visit. TJ evaluates you, treats you and progresses your plan. You don't retell your story to someone new.
  • A full session. Time to assess, treat, train and explain. Not a rush to fit all four into a short appointment.
  • Hands-on care and exercise together. Manual therapy and, when appropriate, dry needling, paired with progressive strength work so the change in how you feel can hold.
  • A plan you understand. You know what each exercise is for, which phase you're in and what comes next.
  • Care that looks ahead. If your goal is a barbell, a start line or a playing field, the plan is built toward it. "Pain-free" is a milestone, not the finish.
  • Honest pacing. Your plan moves with how you respond, not with a calendar.

The plan keeps building toward your goal, with testing before you return to sport

Care may wind down once symptoms improve

Every clinic is different, and plenty of excellent therapists work in busy ones. This compares two models, not two groups of people.

How does it work?

1. Understand your starting point

Your first visit is a full 60 minutes. We talk through your symptoms, history, and goals. Then we look at how you move: a movement screen, strength and mobility testing, and a hands-on assessment. You leave knowing what we found, what it means and what we'll do next.

A clearer picture. A plan with purpose.

2. Build the capacity to move forward

Hands-on care and targeted exercise come together in a plan that changes as you do. You build strength, work on movement and see your progress. Each session builds on the last because the same person is running it.

Care that connects treatment to training.

3. Get back to what matters

We prepare you for the demands of your activity, with testing and progressions that guide your next step. And we keep building past the point where pain settles, so the same problem is less likely to come back.

More confidence in what comes next.

Who One-on-One Physical Therapy is for

Not sure which describes you? You don't need to know. When you reach out, tell us what you'd like to get back to. TJ will help you work out the next step.

Hi, my name is Dustin. I dealt with lateral knee pain for about five years. Just recently, about seven months ago, I had an IT band surgery and a meniscus surgery. After that, I started working with TJ for physical therapy. Having been a runner in the past, I did cross-country and track. I dealt with quite a few injuries before and been to physical therapy quite a few times. And I can honestly say that TJ is the best that there is. I've never had somebody so knowledgeable and show such a level of care before. He really tailors things to the individual. He doesn't just give you a list of generic exercises to do, and he really employs the most modern techniques. Having worked with him, he's been able to get me back to doing the things I love. I've been back in the CrossFit gym. I've been outside hiking. It's been awesome. Awesome. Thanks TJ. Enjoy.

I was one of TJ's patients while training for half marathon last year. I developed symptoms of runners knee. I was referred to a physical therapist and had TJ. He was awesome, super supportive from day one. Always felt like I was being heard and he understood my goals as a patient and also as an athlete. Recovering from any injury and being pulled out of the sport you love is super tough. But I got the guidance I needed through each step of the process. TJ explained things and made sure I understood the goal of each exercise in each phase of rehab, and a communication built a trusting relationship and helped me get back to running and being able to accomplish my half marathon.

Physical therapy should connect to the things you care about outside the clinic. At Pursuit, that starts with listening to your story, understanding your movement and building a plan together.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?

No. Massachusetts allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can book without a physician referral. If your assessment shows something that needs a physician's attention, TJ will tell you and point you in the right direction.

What happens at my first appointment?

You'll spend a full 60 minutes with TJ. You'll talk through your symptoms, history and goals. Then TJ will assess how you move and test your current strength and mobility, using hands-on assessment as needed. You'll talk through what the findings mean and what comes next, and you'll leave with a plan.

What does "one-on-one" actually mean?

It means one therapist, one patient, for the whole session. No aides running your exercises, no double-booked sessions and no handoffs to a different therapist partway through your care.

How long will I need physical therapy?

There isn't one timeline for everyone. Your starting point, goals, injury or procedure and response to treatment all matter. After your assessment, TJ will walk you through what to expect and review the plan as you progress.

How is Pursuit different from other physical therapy clinics?

Pursuit is built around time and continuity: a full session, the same doctor of physical therapy every visit and a plan that keeps going past the point where pain settles. We also coach strength and movement in the clinic, so rehab and training connect.
